Meet My Character

BLOG TOUR

One of the coolest things about diving into the literary world and pursuing my career as an author has been the amazing people who have graced my life!
I have been able to meet some incredible writers and one of which, MARY BERNSEN has kindly invited me to participate in what is called:
MEET MY CHARACTER BLOG TOUR!
This is a cool way for various authors to link together!
It is intended to not only showcase their own work, but to help
readers discover and connect with other great novels as well!
How It Works:
I will present my character to you in this blog post.
I will link this post to other novelist's character interviews and author websites.
Then you will have direct access to other books and writers as well!
I hope you like my post and that you pursue the additional links included!
(Most links are through the various photos.  Simple click on a photo to be redirected)
ENJOY!
My character interview is about Dakota!
Dakota is the lead protagonist in my The Fears of Dakota series!

1) What is the name of your character? Is he/she fictional or a historic person?
My character’s name is Dakota.  She is a fictional person in my YA / NewAdult thriller & suspense romance series that begins with my debut novel, FEARS OF DARKNESS.

2) When and where is the story set?
The story is set in the year 2013, actually.  It starts with the back drop of Minneapolis, Minnesota, but then moves across the country until the characters find a new home near Rockport State Park by Peoa, Utah.  You will be taken on a journey across Minnesota, South Dakota, Wyoming, and Utah.  I included a route that can actually be tracked on Google Earth, as some of my readers have actually done!

3) What should we know about him/her?
Dakota is only eighteen years old when the story takes place.  She and her sisters, Georgia and Carolina were raised in a unique way.  Their parents weren’t “doom’s day preppers,” but they were raised with skills that enable them to survive in the wilderness.  Their father, John was a S.E.R.E. Instructor in the United States Air Force.
**S.E.R.E. stands for Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape.

4) What is the main conflict? What messes up his/her life?
A war breaks out in modern America, fueled by the suspicion and paranoia of the population due to various societal collapses.  This war plunges Dakota into a necessary trek across the country in search for a safe place to live.  It is about the struggles the characters face and how they work together to survive.
I tried to include relevant information that not only brings the story to life, but also fits with current opinions and events.  I try to connect you to the characters in FEARS OF DARKNESS, so I don’t give you all the information about what’s happening immediately.  I want you to go on the journey and experience things as close to what the characters are experiencing as possible.  This can be frustrating at times, as some readers have expressed, but that’s the point!  I want you to feel the story!

5) What is the personal goal of the character?
Dakota is trying to figure out who she is and how she fits in her new world.  Everything she thought she was becomes irrelevant overnight, so she has to decide who she wants to be now while she is trying to understand what happened in America to cause the war.

6) Is there a working title for this novel, and can we read more about it?
The book is called, FEARS OF DARKNESS and it has been published by Creativia.  You can read more about it, as well as purchase a copy of it from Amazon at this link: http://www.amazon.com/J.M.-Northup/e/B00KKQVFI0/
7) When can we expect the book to be published?
FEARS OF DARKNESS is available now in both eBook and paperback versions.
I am working on the #prequel, A RIPPLE OF FEAR.  As FEARS OF DARKNESS introduces you to the characters and takes you through the war, A RIPPLE OF FEAR will let you know how the war built up to the explosive start at the beginning of FEARS OF DARKNESS.  It will also let you see the family life that Dakota and her sisters had with their parents and how Chris and Dakota’s romance bloomed!  The prequel (which is book two of “The Fears of Dakota” series) will be available by the end of the year!
